Full description

The frontispiece captioned “Richard and his Brother, see page 1” depicts two youngish boys, the slightly taller boy with an arm wrapped companionably around the shoulders of his younger sibling who holds his hand. The elder brother, Richard, points away from their house to the surrounding countryside as they set out on a walk. This interlocutor gesture resembles others, with the teacher calling attention to the material world, but in this case an elder sibling takes that role with a younger brother as his pupil.
