As a young boy, James Watt concentrates on his aunt's teakettle boiling over the fire, his book rejected at his feet. The caption reads “Watt and the tea-kettle.” Like many interlocutor gestures, the child's reading process includes pausing to contemplate ideas while observing objects in the environment.
