Musical toy by M. Bautte
A detailed sales page created by Christie's for a gold enamel and pearl-set musical domina box with twenty-eight dominos, created by Moulinie, Bautte & Cie, ca. 1808. https://www.christies.com/en/lot/lot-6067414
Full description
Many watches and musical baubles produced by Jean-François Bautte and his Genevan business partners survive in museums and private collections. This particular example combines mechanical music with a game, showing the style Maria Edgeworth invokes by referring to Bautte's work in “The Bracelet” in Rosamond: A Continuation of Early Lessons (1821). The jeweled exterior is consistent with the mouse and caterpillar that Edgeworth attributes to him.
